Keothavong's season ended by knee injury
Posted on: Thursday - Jul 30, 2009

Keothavong damaged her anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus during a doubles match at a WTA Tour tournament in Stanford, California, on Tuesday.

The world number 54 and Japanese partner Ayumi Morita were playing Julie Coin and Marie-Eve Pelletier in the first round when she collided with a fence while trying to reach a drop shot.

"I was running towards the fence for an angled shot. I tried to avoid the fence and, in doing so I twisted my knee," Keothavong said.

"I'm flying to London to consult with my team of doctors and physios. I will have to rehab for the rest of the season.

"Of course I'm disappointed to be out for the rest of the season but I'll continue to work with my team and look forward to coming back next season."
